📅 17 – 21 September

The British Fashion Council's September schedule brings established houses together with a new generation of emerging designers across five days. Most shows are industry-only, but the City Wide Celebration brings the energy to the public with pop-ups, talks and shopping events across Mayfair, Soho and Shoreditch. Good excuse to dress up and wander.

📅 11 – 13 September

Battersea Power Station turns into a three-day celebration of South East Asian food and culture, and it's free to get in. Expect 35+ street food stalls, an artisan market, live music and dance as well as a film festival. They'll also be workshops if you fancy learning something new, batik painting and boat basket weaving are both on the list. Good one for a group outing early in term.

📅 12 – 20 September

London Design Festival celebrates the city as the design capital of the world, with exhibitions, installations and open studios spread across London from Shoreditch to Soho to Bankside. Big names like the V&A and the Design Museum run major shows, but a lot of the best bits are free and drop-in, so it's an easy one to fit around lectures.

📅 12 – 20 September

For nine days, buildings across all London boroughs throw open their doors for free, no ticket or membership needed. Think halls, architects' studios, private houses and places of worship you'd never normally get inside. Some spots are drop-in, others need booking, so it's worth having a browse  before you head out.

The Bayeux Tapestry: The British Museum

The Bayeux Tapestry: Opens September 10 at the The British Museum. It's the first time in nearly 1,000 years this 70-metre historic artifact is shown in the UK.

Anish Kapoor: Hayward Gallery, Southbank Centre

📅 Until 18 October 2026

One of the most influential artists of our time returns to the Hayward, where he staged his first major UK survey almost 30 years ago, filling the whole building with mirrored sculptures, and works that mess with your sense of space.

Waldmüller, Landscapes: The National Gallery

Visit the first ever UK exhibition of paintings by Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller, one of Austria’s greatest painters. Explore how he found beauty in nature’s imperfections through his landscapes.
