It's important to look after your wellbeing as a student - physically and mentally. Food can be a powerful tool for boosting your energy and mood, which is why we always make sure to feature food that feeds your mind in your weekly menu.
Not to mention our nutritious salad bars available every single day in our canteens.
The food & mood salad bar
Here you'll find a range of different delicious plants, all that contain helpful antioxidants and nutrients that can influence your mood, energy levels, motivation, and even your sleep.
What kind of nutrients?
- Fibre – in fruit, vegetables, pulses, nuts, seeds and wholegrains.
- Magnesium – in nuts, wholegrains, seafood and green leafy vegetables.
- Omega 3 – in nuts, wholegrains, seafood and green leafy vegetables.
- Phytonutrients – in colourful fruit and vegetables.
- Pro/prebiotics – in fermented foods, onion, and garlic.
Mood-boosting tips to keep in mind
While we're serving up the mood-boosting ingredients, here are five other small habits you can add to your routine to uplift your spirits and keep the good vibes going:
- Kickstart your day with a protein and fibre-rich breakfast instead of sugary cereals or pastries (think wholegrain toast with avocado, eggs, or a smoothie with fruits, nuts and seeds).
- Build a balanced plate at lunch and dinner time, incorporating protein, healthy fats, fibre and antioxidants at every meal to keep your body and mind energised.
- Pick up a regular eating pattern to help with regulating your mood, eating big meals and small snacks at consistent times each day.
- Drink enough water throughout the day to avoid feeling sluggish or irritable.
- Try to exercise or move regularly, whether that's a quick walk around campus or an intense workout session to sweat off that stress.
Food really can impact the way we feel, so nourish your mind, body and spirit through the power of delicious (and nutritious) food on campus!
