Important information about UAL accommodation

As a parent or guardian of a student living in halls, we know you will have a lot of questions about their new accommodation.

We have created this useful list of ‘Frequently Asked Questions’ to provide you with some important information about our UAL halls.

About our UAL Halls 🏡

Life in halls of residence is a communal and enriching experience. Our Accommodation Services are always happy to help students find the most suitable and convenient place to live, in a fully student-focused environment, within easy reach of your college.

All UAL halls are self catered and have kitchen facilities. Students are responsible for arranging their own meals and need to be able to live independently.

We currently have 12 halls of residence across London. You can view all our halls of residence here.

The safety and wellbeing of our residents is very important to us. We want to ensure that your child is supported during their time in our halls of residence and are aware of the support available to them.

If your child has any specific support needs, or require any additional aids, adjustments or adaptations to assist them throughout their stay in halls of residence, then we would encourage them to make contact with the hall of residence they will be staying at as soon as possible to make them aware.

Here's some useful information to help you in your search for private rentals:

Finances and insurance 💵

To know when and how to pay accommodation fees in our halls, please visit our Rent, insurance and contracts webpage.

All UAL-managed halls and partner halls (Emily Bowes Court, Furzedown Student Village and Cedars Hall, Stratford One, Wick Park and Southwark) are covered by Howden Insurance.

Before moving into halls, the student will be asked to confirm their cover, to ensure they understand what is and isn’t covered. They will be able to download a copy of the policy for future reference too.

We understand students have a limited budget, so Howden has launched brand new, unique student insurance options. They have been designed to cover the risks that the student may encounter whilst living in student accommodation and away from home.

To make a claim, visit the Howden website.

Moving into halls 🧳

Moving into university halls marks your child’s first taste of independent living – swapping the comfort of home for a room in a corridor full of strangers.

Here’s our check-in procedures at halls article of what to expect on move-in weekend, including checking-in to their hall, getting connected and other important information.

Please view our suggested options on where to park your car around every UAL hall in this article here.

Students who are under the age of 18 at the start of the tenancy (for one of the University managed halls) and their parent / guardian are encouraged to carefully read the Tenancy terms and conditions, UAL Accommodation Policy for Under 18s and all the other information we make available when booking a room in one of our halls. For Partner Halls, please check the Under 18 policy with the hall provider.
